From April 20 to 26, 2026, Spazio Viruly presents UNBOXING: A Room as Instrument, a site-specific exhibition at Superattico in Milan’s Porta Venezia Design District that brings together Rotterdam-based designers Matthijs Koerts and Merijn Haenen. Responding directly to Superattico’s compact, double-height architecture, the exhibition explores how energy, tension, light, and sound can be stripped to their essential components and reassembled into immersive spatial installations visible from both inside and the street. Koerts presents suspended speaker anatomies that expose their inner workings and turn the room itself into a resonant body, while Haenen uses elements of urban infrastructure such as neon tubes and connectors to create sculptural light interventions that reshape the perception of space. Accompanied by a specially designed soundscape, listening sessions, and live performances by Milan-based dancer Eleonora Cattaneo, the project also extends beyond Milan through related public events in Rotterdam, reinforcing Spazio Viruly’s role as a platform for new work and international design exchange.
