Unnatural Practice, curated by Federica Sala is a self initiated, solo presentation of Marcin Rusak Studio. Showcasing a mix of new and recent works, together with pieces “in progress” and items from the archive. Our aim is not to offer any solutions, but rather bring the viewer into this paused environment and invite them to investigate the slit layers of Marcin Rusak Studio. The exhibition is therefore an opportunity to see and understand the suspended substance of our practice - a living catalogue of the decaying, ephemeral and preserved.
Unnatural Practice presents for the first time the deep sense of Marcin Rusak’s ongoing research and development phases that characterize the designer’s collections and tests. From the Proustian sublimation of decay in the very first series of Perishable Vases to the most recent collections of Protoplasting Nature, in which vegetable elements are petrified in metal or resin, opening a new path back to the formal Art Nouveau we know and advancing a new design era where natural elements can grow into beautiful functional objects.

About
Marcin Rusak Studio
Marcin Rusak (born in 1987, Warsaw, Poland) is an artist and multidisciplinary designer interested in ideas of value, ephemerality and aesthetics. Specializing in storytelling, process and material investigation his work often incorporates research, object and installation as well as visual creations to explore overlooked details of our lives which recreated and re-imagined are shown again in a different light. As the son and grandson of flower growers he has long been fascinated by these natural sources of inspiration and decoration. Engaging them in his creative process began by reusing waste to investigate new decorative elements within everyday objects and led to a rich body of work ranging from research and storytelling to cultural criticism around consumption and future scenarios.
