Designer, Kasper Kyster, presents 'Crafting Plastic', an exhibition challenging our perception of plastic as an industrial material. Part of the official program of 3 Days of Design, the exhibition will take place from June 6th to 30th, inviting viewers into a world of unique, handcrafted furniture and objects made entirely of plastic.
Craftsmanship Meets Industrial Material'Crafting Plastic' is an exploration of the sensory and functional qualities of plastic. It represents a transformation from the industrial to the organic. It's almost ceramic expression challenges our expectations of plastic and evokes a distinct aesthetic language. Only the imagination sets limits to the design, but the handmade furniture pieces are archetypes, where the familiar meets new materiality and technique. The spacial design is set to highlight all the details of the crafted furniture pieces.
Visitors to 'Crafting Plastic' will be taken through an analog process where an industrial material is processed and refined as a craft. Kyster will convey the creation process through workshops, where people can gain insight into the unique manufacturing process.
Kasper Kyster pursues the unknown. He seeks to test his intuition and experiment with materials and principles to achieve something spontaneous. His motivation is largely about the process of creating, about producing and pursuing the unique rather than the perfect. Based on topics such as statics, tectonics, form, and function, he works uncompromisingly towards one concept that can become a piece of furniture or object. The limitation means that his work appears spontaneous and intuitive. Kyster puts materials and craftsmanship above everything else. He is curious about how you can experiment with old crafts to give materials new aesthetics, and how modern technologies can redefine the impact of craftsmanship on aesthetics.
