Archetypes

Stine Mikkelsen presents Archetypes, an exhibition on view at Frederiksgade 1, that reflects the evolution of an idea — from an artistic statement to objects for everyday use. The exhibition introduces a new collection of furniture and lighting designed for production, marking an expansion of Mikkelsen’s practice beyond limited-edition gallery pieces. Central to the presentation is Semble — a previously developed conceptual bench that served as the foundation for the entire collection. This original work, characterized by soft, sculptural forms and a subtle interplay of space, has been reinterpreted into a series of refined, functional objects. Crafted exclusively in ash wood and stainless steel, the pieces are the result of a material investigation into contrast, tactility, and production potential. By exploring the inherent qualities of each material, Mikkelsen has created a collection that bridges artistic expression and industrial feasibility — demonstrating how a conceptual idea can evolve into a commercially viable product.
