Inside Chapelle XIV and its exhibition Temple Du Bon Goût, dissecting traditional art through the joyful, modernist lens. Photography by Romain Darnaud
The vibrant city of Paris wonderfully targets, and essentially embodies, the zeitgeist of cultural endeavour. For the contemporary art connoisseur, there are numerous mesmerising spots, lavishing museums and edgy independent galleries in particular. Although plenty are found in the thriving area of Le Marais, this creative space is found in the 18th arrondissement.
Chapelle XIV saw daylight in late 2020, during the very epicentre of the pandemic, in a highly restricted Paris. Here, founders Eléonore Levai Belaga and Benjamin Belaga wish to offer a perspective-altering hub combining art, music, and simply socialising. Core theme spells emerging artists, all with a strong contemporary eye, allowing the visitor to indulge in progressive pieces from fresh creators. Located near Stalingrad, Chapelle XIV stands out for its thoughtful venue where displayed pieces are accompanied by a record shop and sophisticated café – all found under one roof.

Current exhibition Temple Du Bon Goût, on display until September 10th, explores classical art through a playful narrative. The name is essentially a French pun, an expression used to describe an institution of good taste.
– Temple Du Bon Goût revisits archetypal Greco-Roman motifs with a playful, campy twist. It is a sugary cocktail of classical imagery and dreamlike colors, like an imaginary trip through the Antique era, says Eléanor Levai Belaga.
Featured artists:
Sharon Alfassi
Yoan Béliard
Étienne François
Tram Gomsu
Aurore-Caroline Marty
Justin Morin
Sabourin Costes
Studio Joachim Morineau
Marijke Vasey
Cyril Zarcone
Chapelle XIV is found on 14 Boulevard la Chapelle in Paris, open Tuesday–Saturday between 11AM and 7PM CET.
