Alien Days exhibition at Future Fairs

*“This show blends my two loves of innovative, emerging design and the traditional foundations of interior design to create a space that feels alien, yet welcoming. We are not looking into the future, but rather at a parallel reality of singular design works in the traditional context of a living room, thus adding familiarity among otherworldly examples of the current collectible design movement.” – Julia Haney Montanez, Curator

Facture, Two Way Shift Box, 2020FACTURE is a contemporary resin furniture company led by designer Quincy Ellis. Light, color, and transparency is the core concept of Ellis’ creative process.
The Two Way Shift Box and Meld Desk and Chair by Facture, a contemporary resin furniture company led by designer Quincy Ellis. The pieces each feature light, color, and transparency– the core concept of Ellis’ creative process. The studio creates dream-like resin objects from dynamic mold casting and color mixing processes. Ellis and his team constantly refine designs by playing with colors, shades, shift patterns, opacities, and interior core colors. The “meld” technique creates the illusion of perpetual motion in different directions depending on where the observer is. The shifting saturation levels create subtle changes in the way light is refracted from within; whereas the exterior facets are sanded to a smooth-as-glass finish.

Plump Resin Floating Shelf by Ian Cochran
The Plump Resin Floating Shelf and Dew Drop Stool Side Table by Ian Cochran, a designer who is excited by unconventional materials and the relationship that emerges in working with them. He makes contemporary art furniture in resin, fiberglass, and composites, and continues to explore other materials not typically used in the design world. The Plump Series originates from Cochran’s interest in resin. The shapes play upon the effect that resin has as light is refracted through the solid parts. The table is only held together through notches at each joint with no glue or fasteners needed.
