The boutique hotel of 70 hotel rooms and suites has an atmosphere that feels homey and welcoming, with a touch of sophistication that Stockholm is known for. Named after a home surrounded by a beautiful rose garden, Villa Dagmar in Båstad, the hotel was inspired to be an escape from the bustling city, and an eclectic and cozy place where friends and family can be together.

Villa Dagmar is in the heart of the elegant Östermalm neighborhood is the most central area of the city, where all the high-end shops are found, fantastic restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Most of the surrounding neighborhoods are no more than a 20-minute walk away.

In my four days in the hotel I was lucky enough to experience two rooms in the hotel, a smaller suite with a lovely pitched ceiling and sky lights, and then a slightly larger suite with a balcony overlooking the hotel’s courtyard. Although the second room was an upgrade, the cozy smaller room was my favorite, the skylights bathing the room in beautiful Swedish summer sun was a wonderful way to wake up. The balcony in the suite was an added bonus, a perfect place to have a morning coffee. All the bathrooms are designed with floor to ceiling marble, generous tubs, and separate showers.

Interior designer Anna Cappelen was inspired by her European travels, which created the vision for a personal and unique boutique hotel, in the form of a city villa and a loved home.

The heart of Villa Dagmar’s is the garden courtyard which includes a dining area with a wine bar and a concept store. The restaurant hosts DJs almost daily, playing music during brunch or cocktail hour. The included breakfast was my favorite time spent at the hotel, where I caught up with news or worked with a cappuccino, the most perfect avocado toast with a side of gravlax, and a bowl of cherries. I was at the hotel long enough to get friendly with the staff, who were all genuinely friendly and charming, and made me feel very welcome.

The hotel also has a sauna and steam room on a subterranean floor that guests can schedule to have to themselves. The hotel also offers spa services like massages and facials, and a gym.

The best part of the stay was the beds and linens, and I went so far as to ask where they were from. After a few weeks of travel you really start to notice where your best sleep is had, and hands-down, and without exaggeration, I can say I had the best sleep in months in their fluffy beds. I look forward to staying again soon.
