Today, we sit down with the Founders to learn more about SFW and what we can expect next from the design trio:
THE DESIGN RELEASE: Tell us about Studio SFW.
Studio SFW: Studio SFW is a New York-based architecture and interior design firm founded by Rachael Stollar, Erin Fearins, and Ward Welch. Collectively, the partners have designed, renovated and decorated homes in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Long Island and the Hudson Valley, as well as in Connecticut and New Jersey. An accomplished practice with a decidedly southern sensibility, SFW brings to its work more than two decades of collaborative creativity and hands-on design development and implementation.
TDR: Do you have a signature style?
SFW: SFW's commitment to aesthetic beauty is embodied in the discerning eye with which they fashion spaces that are tailored, expertly layered, and alluring.
TDR: What does Studio SFW bring to the table that is unique in the industry?
SFW: SFW differentiates itself with a signature approach that imbues lived-in luxury to interiors and lifestyle projects, thriving on the details that tell a story and intentionally crafting a way of life. At ease establishing a narrative informed by a client’s objectives and tastes, SFW is equally adept at threading that narrative through interior and exterior spaces—and into surrounding landscapes.
TDR: Can you fill us in on some recent projects that were highlights for you?
SFW: Recent projects include:
A full gut-renovation and decoration of three previously combined apartments into a cohesive 3,000-square-foot home on the UWS.
The renovation of a Brooklyn carriage house situated at the end of a charming alley featuring many private outdoor spaces such as a parking court, dining terrace, and roof deck.
TDR: Tell us about your retail showcase House SFW in Rhinebeck?
SFW: House SFW is the imaginative retail showcase for the decorative collections of New York-based architecture and interior design practice Studio SFW. Known for their Southern sensibility and made-to-order approach to home design, the SFW partners have assembled choice pieces from artists and artisans with whom they’ve collaborated over the years as well as hand-picked antiques and vintage objects from country estates and the best Paris fleas. Featured and exclusive lines include furniture by Atelier Delalain, textiles and pottery by Ted Tyler, hand-painted leather goods and glassware by artist Elizabeth Hargraves-Mandy, and SFW’S own furnishings and decor line, Raton Laveur, among many others. The team’s worldly interests and discerning eye for original style come together in a unique narrative that is, quintessentially, SFW.
Recent press includes features and mentions in House Beautiful’s “Rufino Report,” Millbrook Magazine, Chronogram, Robb Report, and House SFW was just listed among "The Best Home Stores in America Right Now" by House Beautiful.
TDR: Do you have any exciting product launches coming up or new pieces to spotlight?
SFW: House SFW is excited to launch the incredible Mario Lopez Torres line, with whom they have partnered to exclusively offer his collection of whimsical and well-crafted pieces in Dutchess County and the greater Kingston area. The line started in 1974 by Mario Lopez Torres who set up his workshop and began to combine the craft of wire structure art with the traditional work of chuspata weaving, working with a vegetable fiber that grows abundantly on the banks of the lake he lived along in Puebla, Mexico. These pieces are delightful and collectible additions for anyone's home.
