It all started when Paolo d’Amico (a Roman of both Salerno and Neapolitan descent and a shipowner for 3 generations) and his wife Noemia do Amaral Osorio (a Brazilian of Portuguese descent with a 15 year past as “deleguée” of Maison Dior) discovered their love for wine in 1985 and then decided to enter the world of hospitality with their 16th century family property Villa Tirrena.

They grow more classic varieties of vegetables from tomatoes for sauces and salads to cucumbers, peppers, zucchini and eggplant as well as more unusual and uncommon varieties such as wild, exotic, aromatic and medicinal herbs that effortlessly help enhance the dishes and increase biodiversity.
The brilliant hues and aromatic scent of the lemon trees are one of the trademarks of Villa Tirrena - they don’t just decorate the mediterranean gardens and the limonaia aside the internal swimming pool but they serve the perfect fruit to create delights in the kitchen.
Paolo and Noemia have also dedicated a special secret garden to their close friend Mark Shand - the British travel writer, conservationist and brother of Camilla Parker Bowles - with sculptures from his Elephant Family Association.
Lastly, Villa Tirrena is made even more extraordinary by what you will find in its Sculpture Garden.
It was dreamed up by Paolo and Noemia - passionate art lovers too who wanted an open-air museum to house their ever-growing eclectic collection that they've been collecting from key artists from the modern and contemporary art scene.
Brought to life with the help of landscape architect Elio Cavallo and then continued by artist Luca de Troia - the design was seamlessly conceived as part of the sculptural environment around it.
The jagged canyons of the Calanchi Valley form a naturally rugged backdrop and are complemented by the striking man made form of Villa Tirrena's recently restored 13th-century tower, Torre del Sole.
Pieces by Anish Kapoor, Richard Hudson, Igor Mitoraj, Banksy and more are strategically tucked between rose bushes, lemon trees and cypresses like a game of hide and seek.
This remarkable array of art in a striking setting features - a mirror-finished stainless-steel sculpture by Anish Kapoor, Igor Mitoraj's “Centurione Pietrificato”, Banksy's "Because I am worthless" and one of his trademark rats, sculpture-frames by Luca de Troia and Salvatore Savoca's marble-coated resin wings tucked into the maze-like greenery.
Without a doubt, a memorable space where nature, art and love for beauty walk hand in hand - staying at Villa Tirrena is total bliss and an unforgettable experience in itself!
