To mark this anniversary, the gallery is organizing its first retrospective exhibition, featuring a selection of objects that trace the gallery’s activity from its beginnings to the present day. Prestigious furniture, ceramics and rare pieces will be presented in a setting that pays tribute to the stand designed by Karl Lagerfeld in 1972 for the first Biennale des Antiquaires.
An exceptional set of unpublished lacquer panels signed by Armand-Albert Rateau reproducing the decor of the Duchess of Alba’s bathroom will be the highlight of this event, recalling the Rateau retrospective in 1992. Exhibited in 1925 at the Seligmann Gallery, these gold-decorated panels will be unveiled during this exhibition.
Alongside the brilliant designer and friend of Jeanne Lanvin, other famous decorators of the 1930s will be present, such as Jean-Michel Frank (Cole Porter armchair, folding screen, coffee tables, etc.), Pierre Chareau (bedside table, folding screen) and Jean Dunand (collector’s furniture).
