Denim

Harry Nuriev uses this exhibition to reinvent denim, using the iconic fabric as his canvas. Denim has been adopted by everyone from miners and cowboys to Hollywood celebrities over the past two centuries, and Nuriev brings this history to his art. Nuriev’s driving ethos is to combine the worlds of art, design and fashion. The artist continues to explore his concept of Transformism, which consists of reinterpreting everyday objects to renew their beauty.

This series of deliberately hybrid pieces questions how we relate to furniture and revisits our relationships to everyday objects. For Denim, Harry Nuriev was given free rein to take over the ground floor of Carpenters’ Parisian gallery with a set of artworks designed specifically for the space. The artist recreates an apartment by designing microenvironments.

The collection was conceived as a modular system, composed of several dissociated and interchangeable elements that form a matrix. These hybrid pieces are designed to adapt to the way we spend time indoors, which has been considerably transformed by the last few years.

About

Carpenters Workshop Gallery

From Functional Art to Collectible Design, today Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional art by international artists or designers, both rising and established, going outside their traditional territories of expression. Actively involved in the research and production of limited edition works, the gallery’s choices are guided by seeking an emotional, artistic and historical relevance; a relevance that must appear evident.
