Carpenters Workshop Gallery New York presents Spring Salon, an exhibition showcasing the role of functional art in an everyday life that embraces art into all aspects. Featuring works by designers from across Europe and the US, the exhibition invites viewers into a salon where objects have been crafted with conceptual vision and creative innovation to bring surprising and thought-provoking ideas into the spaces that they inhabit.
Among the display is Grandfather Clock The Son by Maarten Baas, a functioning timepiece that continues the artist’s performance of regressing back to childhood. Made of wooden planks reminiscent of a treehouse, the work sees Baas assuming a Peter Pan-like character. He removes himself from the aging effects of time, instead dictating it from within the sculpture by re-drawing the hands of the clock face.
