With the Design Switzerland exhibition taking place in the iconic context of Casa degli Artisti in Brera during this year’s Milan Design Week, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia is presenting the works of nine of Switzerland’s most promising up-and-coming design studios. At its fourth participation, Pro Helvetia launches a group exhibition on the ground floor of the space, showcasing the works of the selected Swiss talents chosen by a specialist jury following an open call for applications. The projects on display express propositions, through artifacts and practices, on the question “how do living spaces evolve to adapt to our changing society?” and investigate the themes of inclusivity, fairness, sustainability and equitability. All the objects and appliances shown are tried-and-tested prototypes from the interior design domain, and feature innovative characteristics at their core: among them, brewery waste used as raw material for furnishings, folding screens produced out of hand-woven carbon fiber, convertible and multifunctional seating, and an intelligent coffee roasting machine that allows small, individually selected amounts of coffee beans to be roasted in a variety of defined manners. The exhibition design was imagined and produced by Lausanne- based studio iiode. The exhibition is intended as a temporary yet outside of time lounge., with the idea of a shared space to invite the public to slow down, pause and engage in conversations with the exhibited designers.
