A Squashed Space

At London Design Festival 2024, Faye Toogood is taking over the Poltrona Frau flagship store on Fulham Road with a bold installation celebrating and framing the award-winning Squash collection, also designed by Toogood. Titled “A Squashed Space,” the playful and immersive installation pairs Toogood’s restless experimentation with Poltrona Frau’s unrivaled leathercraft. Sensual quilted leather will be draped from hand-crafted wooden totems, creating curving patchwork walls with doors and windows that mirror the relaxed lines of the furniture in the collection. The space can be experienced from both inside and out, framed by hand-painted folk art motifs on the store’s glass windows. In Toogood’s words, the installation is “a frozen spontaneous gesture that pairs exquisite craft with the glee of a child’s blanket fort.”
