Showing new bodies of works by Amelia Stevens & Matthew Verdon, Max’s intuitive pairing of the London-based exhibitors is underpinned by a shared explorative & experimental approach to design. For Amelia Stevens this comes in the form of a novel low seating system, as well as new iterations of her ‘______ Without Qualities’ collection. Through investigations into communal seating, its necessities & its alternatives, she pivots away from the dense forms of traditional seating towards essential but comfortable flexible systems. For Matthew Verdon a new collection of light fittings presents a natural development of his practice. Through explorations of organic & constructed materials, he inspects a new materiality & its uses in the arena of ob- ject-making — removing natural substrates from their usual contexts, whilst remaining true to their inherent material character. Inhabiting the space together, Amelia & Matthew’s works present an unlikely material marriage, yet one with a strong conceptual connection that renders the gallery space as a future laboratory for experiments in the art of human inhabitation.
