Gallery FUMI is pleased to announce Rooted., a solo exhibition of works by British design duo JAMESPLUMB at Gallery FUMI. Rooted. encapsulates the essence of JAMESPLUMB’s practice, focusing on the experiences achieved through the authentic act of making. The exhibition will explore the designers' most recent body of work Copper Roots. Copper Roots is the natural evolution from their previous Steel Roots series, which featured steel rebar and candles, now transitioning to an electrified version using copper and bulbs. The series developed in 2022, when James Russell and Hannah Plumb relocated from London to the Shropshire Hills to restore a derelict farmhouse. During the restoration, they discovered old copper pipework with curious winding forms inspiring the designers to repurpose the material, exploring the possibilities of electrification. This exploration has resulted in a new series of lighting sculptures encompassing chandeliers, candelabras, wall sconces, and mobiles that see the contorting copper pipes emerge from shattered fragments of concrete.

About
Gallery FUMI
There were fewer specialist galleries, fairs and rather less of an audience for unique and limited edition design works, when Sam Pratt and Valerio Capo decided to open Gallery FUMI in 2008. Both came from non-design backgrounds (banking and marketing respectively) and the only driving factor in their inception of this project was pure and unadulterated passion, not to serve the market, such as it was, but to invest in the people making the work.
